Supports and potentially leads the ideation, design and development of medical devices addressing unmet clinical needs.
Main Areas of Responsibilities
For projects within the Growth Product Flow (GPF) stage gate process, typically serves as a technical team member and may serve as the Product Development Core Team Member; establishes project level timelines with project teams and contributes to or leads the development of technical strategies and executes against them
Establishes user requirements and translates them into clinically relevant technical requirements through research and customer interactions
Develops and/or applies physical and mathematical models in support of product design; develops experimental designs and protocols to demonstrate product feasibility; analyzes and resolves design problems associated with product performance
Designs products, including prototype development of devices, fabrication, verification testing and analysis; applies understanding of surgical procedures, products and trends in related therapeutic area to product design
Develops technical specifications (design and test, and test method development) to meet product requirements; applies fundamental engineering principles to the design, fabrication, testing and evaluation of products and when resolving technical challenges
Prepares and delivers technical presentations to internal and external customers, including senior management
Identifies outside vendors and consultants to ensure the delivery of supplies or services needed to meet scheduled timelines
Participates in or leads technical reviews; coaches and mentors more junior staff
Provides technical/design control support to Regulatory, Quality, Manufacturing, Marketing and Sales as needed
Supports Change Control Assessments
Investigates and evaluates existing technology; designs and implements new methodologies, materials, machines, processes or products
Executes against the Plastics and Regenerative Medicine Franchise overall strategy
Medical device experience or experience in a regulated environment
Experience developing products within a business stage gate process (preferred)
Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Ability to exercise judgment within defined procedures and policies and balanced across technical and business needs
Ability to support diverse, simultaneous projects
Self-motivated; ability to execute under limited supervision
Identifies, understands and mitigates technical/product risk
Ability to communicate technical information in a clear and easy-to-understand way (both verbally and in writing)
Experience working on or leading a team
Demonstrated understanding of statistical analysis; experience using Minitab is preferred
Exhibit a thorough understanding of engineering principles and practices
Design Control knowledge
Experience with experimental design
Product development experience is required
Understanding and experience using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) / Computer-Aided Design (CAD) programs
PhD with 1-3 years of Product Development experience
Master’s degree with 3-5 years Product Development experience
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering with 5-8 years Product Development experience is required*LI-LI-DM1DM1
