Position Description

This role plans, coordinates, manages and controls manufacturing operations to ensure adherence to production plans and cGMP’s. Assigns workloads and assures that schedules and deadlines are met. The Manager is highly involved in the development of Budgetary responses and develops budgets within Finance guidance. Reports, SOP’s, Batch Records, Quality Systems (eDocs, Deviations, Change Controls, Corrective Action /Preventative Action), and Protocols. Performs investigative work on production discrepancies, deviations and other such matters relating to manufacturing. Ensures that Manufacturing Operators are adequately trained and are sufficiently knowledgeable in safety matters and cGMP’s to perform their assigned duties. Participates in operational excellence initiatives and roles models the behavior for operators. Provides leadership, coaching and training to operating personnel.

Main Areas of Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing resources within the Manufacturing Department to achieve departmental goals and objectives.

  • Ensure the efficient use of all department resources i.e. people, equipment, and materials.

  • Manage the workforce and resources of the department to assure adherence to published production plans.

  • Prepare and review documentation i.e. Batch Records, SOP’s and Training Documents.

  • Ensure adherence to required standards i.e. GMP’s, Safety and Housekeeping.

  • Plan and implement operator training and development.

  • Investigate and report on production and performance deviations.

  • Perform employee selection, appraisal and performance feedback.

  • Participate in the qualification of new equipment and facilities.

  • Participate in Operational Excellence initiatives and role model behaviors for operators.

  • Maintain good employee relations through effective communications.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of department budgets.

  • Report on department metrics/key process indicators, variance reports, expense budget variances, and other budgetary items as directed by department and site.

  • Feedback to site quality systems through interaction with Change Control, Deviations and CAPA TrackWise modules.

  • Interact with support functions to achieve objectives and budgetary goals.

  • As necessary, prepare and develop Validation Protocols and supervise their execution.

  • Assure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements (GMP, OSHA, DEA)


  • 3-5years of pharmaceutical or related industry experience, preferably in oral-solid dosage manufacturing.

  • Supervisory experience, knowledge of cGMP’s.

  • Knowledge of oral-solid dosage manufacturing, good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Worked with budgets and reporting on Metrics, Variances and Expenses.

  • Validation Protocols and supervise execution.

  • Managed standards i.e. GMP’s, Safety and Housekeeping.

  • Performed employee selection, appraisal and performance feedback.

Preferred Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s degree in a business, engineering or science related curriculum.
