The Senior Manager is responsible for the oversight of the warehouse operations for the site, including shipping/receiving, storage, dispensing, and distribution of all materials, components, intermediates, and finished goods in accordance with validated procedures. The position is responsible for driving operational excellence and execution that result in productivity improvements in the warehouse to ensure successful manufacturing production in accordance with the annual operating plan. The role provides guidance and direction to Materials Management Supervisors in their daily responsibilities and ensures that the materials management team operates in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, GMP, and internal Company policies. The Materials Manager supervises a team of Warehouse Supervisors and reports to the Associate Director.


Primary duties and responsibilities of the position are as follows. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manage all inventoryassets from components and raw materials and intermediates throughfinished goods, and oversee monthly and annual physical inventories.

  • Coordinate the material movement between the warehouse and theoperational areas to meet production schedules and plan, and work in close collaboration with peer managers to resolveescalated production issues and ensure planned production goals are met.

  • Identify and prioritizeresource requirements based on finite production plan and allocate andschedule resources to maximize flow in warehouse areas, maximizeproductivity, and meet production requirements.

  • Work in closecollaboration with peer managers to coordinate the execution of theproduction plan and to resolve escalated production issues to ensureoperational efficiency in meeting planned production goals.

  • Establish the expectation and standards,and the supportive environment, to ensure that staff has the capability tomeet performance expectations. Thisincludes building staff capability by providingongoing coaching and mentoring of direct reports, providing timelyrecognition as well as performance counseling, building and executingdevelopment plans, providing career counseling for career progression, andensuring succession plans are in place.

  • Develop and implementactivities in warehouse areas to support production goals, quality, andcost objectives

  • Safeguard warehouseoperations and contents by establishing and monitoring security proceduresand protocols.

  • Oversee compliance with,and maintain accreditation for, air security programmed (including CTPAT)and AEO.

  • Oversee inbound andoutbound traffic of materials, components, and finished products,including the sourcing and management of carriers and the negotiation of transportationcontracts.

  • Coordinate the sampling operation of allincoming raw materials, such as active ingredients and excipients.

  • Plan shipments by modeand type to ensure on-time delivery while optimizing transportation costs,expediting delivery of finished goods when necessary.

  • Ensurethat appropriate documentation and records for all transactions, receiptsand shipments are maintained in compliance with applicable FDA, regulatory,and Company requirements.

  • Ensure all materialsmanagement data reports are current, accurate, and distributed accordingto defined procedures.

  • Define the storage strategy that optimizes warehouse capacityutilization and participate in the development and implementation oflong-term plans for facilities and capacity utilization.

  • Maintain accountabilityfor all materials team performance metrics that support the annualoperating plan and production objectives.

  • Encourage processinnovation and continuous process improvement in materials managementoperations.

  • Ensure continualimprovement of all materials management documentation (SOPs and On The Job aids) and that they arecurrent, accurate, and clearly define process and role responsibilities.

  • Manage budgetaryresponsibility for warehouse across site including logistics expenses.

  • Prepare and conduct performance appraisalmeetings with reports in accordance with Company guidelines.

  • Maylead cross-functional initiatives and projects


  • Bachelor'sdegree in business, science or relevant technical discipline is preferred


  • Minimum 10 yearswarehouse and materials management experience in the pharmaceuticalindustry.

  • Demonstrated success inmanaging a team in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment andproviding leadership in a warehousing and materials management function

  • Experienced in aligningindividuals and teams to business objectives

  • Experience in managing bymetrics

  • Current understanding andapplication/interpretation of GMP, CFR Title 21, and other regulatoryguidance in a GMP pharmaceutical manufacturing environment

  • Working knowledge ofmanufacturing practices such as Lean, Six Sigma, Theory of Constraints,and System for Management

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office (MSWord, Access, Excel, Powerpoint).

  • Experience in SAP, Bar Code Systems, others.

  • Knowledge of the US and Internationalshipping requirements
