Position Overview

The Animal Lab Technician is the animal care specialist within the In Vivo Sciences Department who's function is to assure the best possible humane care of research animals as outlined by the USDA Laboratory Animal Welfare Act, FDA Good Laboratory Practices for Non clinical Laboratory Studies, and AALAC Guidelines. Care includes general husbandry (cleaning, feed, water, care, etc.) and cleaning of animal rooms, procedure rooms, and designated equipment.

The employee must conduct their work activities in compliance with all Allergan internal requirements and with all applicable regulatory requirements. Allergan internal requirements include compliance with ethics, environmental health and safety, financial, human resources, and general business policies, requirements and objectives.

Main Areas ofResponsibilities

  • Performs duties required to accomplish the daily care of various research animals

  • Provided feed and water for assigned animal species.

  • Washes/cleans caging and husbandry materials.

  • Provides support to IVS Study Execution Team and Veterinary Services as assigned by the Husbandry Supervisor (study support/veterinary care).

  • Moves, transfers, and crates/uncrates animals (as needed during shipping process).

  • Cleans designated hallways and work areas.

  • Other duties as assigned.



  • The following listed requirements need to be met at a minimum level to be considered for the job:

  • Ability to read and write in English, perform basic math and follow Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.

  • Able to work weekends and holidays as assigned.

  • One or more years of animal care experience desirable.


  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) level with AALA
