Position Overview

Allergan is seeking a Senior Counsel – Labor & Employment to work with Human Resources and members of the Legal team on labor and employment matters. The Senior Counsel will report to the Senior Vice President, Associate General Counsel - M&A, Licensing, Alliance Management & Corporate Affairs.

This position will be located at Allergan’s U.S. headquarters in Madison, NJ. Occasional travel to other Allergan locations will be required.

Main Areas of Responsibility

  • Advise Human Resources, Compliance and Legal colleagues on employment and labor law issues.

  • Lead review/resolution process for matters concerning colleagues and their employment with Allergan (e.g., leave of absence, performance management, severance, compliance). Provide counsel and coaching to Human Resources business partners to address matters from the earliest stage.

  • Lead resolution of employment disputes (including mediation) prior to formal litigation/arbitration stage; support litigation team in connection with employment arbitration and litigation.

  • Conduct analyses related to employment level changes arising from acquisitions or other workforce restructurings to ensure compliance with applicable laws.

  • Provide guidance and support for employee relations, including interpretation of policy and agreement provisions.

  • Manage periodic government reporting (VETS, EEO-1, AAP).

  • Remain contemporary in employment law practices; update Allergan practices as needed.

  • Engage and manage outside counsel for above matters as needed.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree.

  • JD from a top law school, with strong grades.

  • At least 8 years of experience (including in a major law firm) with focus on employment/labor law.

  • New York or New Jersey Bar Admission.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications

  • In-house employment law experience; pharmaceutical company experience preferred.

  • Strong communication, analytical, negotiation and drafting skills; attention to detail.

  • Understanding of business functions.

  • Ability to handle sensitive issues with sound judgment.

  • Ability to work well with colleagues, senior management and business partners at all levels of the organization.
