The National Account Director (NAD) is responsible for gaining and maintaining access and reimbursement for Allergan’s Pharmaceutical products at national HMOs, PBMs and affiliated Specialty Pharmacies. The NAD represents Allergan with these critical customers and is charged with engaging with them to successfully implement brand strategy and to enhance the overall strategic relationship. The NAD also uses the knowledge gained from engagement with payers to provide input into brand forecasts and strategies and to monitor and develop tactics for engaging customers in the changing healthcare environment. The NAD is also responsible where necessary and appropriate for leading a team of RAMs in coordinating regional advocacy and sales efforts.
This critical position interacts with some of the largest and most important customers in the US and requires an energetic and experienced leader. The successful candidate will have excellent technical skills, be a strategic and creative thinker, and consistently demonstrate good judgment. NAD reports to the Associate VP Corporate Accounts.
The NAD is responsible for the following actions:
Gain and maintain product access and reimbursement with national health payers. The NAD is responsible for the entire Allergan branded pharmaceutical portfolio.
Work closely with payer customers to ensure appropriate medical policies affecting patients and their use of Allergan products are developed and implemented.
Enhance the strategic relationship with national payers, developing a long-term partnership that endures over many years. The NAD should have relationships and access to stakeholders throughout their customers and implement a long term engagement plan between executives at Allergan and the payers.
Partner with RAMs and Area Directors to maximize regional advocacy with national payers and sales efforts within affected local areas.
Integrate effectively with customers to isolate threats and opportunities to Allergan products so effective responses can be developed and approved. Utilize customer contacts to enhance organization understanding of change in the US marketplace to enhance brand planning and tactics.
Work cross-functionally as necessary with managed markets personnel, brand teams, finance, medical and compliance to support customer and product objectives.
Act with integrity and in compliance with all company and applicable Federal and State laws and regulations at all times.
The NAD position is located in/near their region near their customers: Prime Therapeutics and BCBS Association with expected travel to customer meetings and sales meetings.
At least seven (7) years of experience in the pharmaceutical or related healthcare industry.
Advanced understanding of the managed healthcare environment and the pharmaceutical sales and reimbursement process.
Proven ability to interact effectively with external and internal stakeholders and to operate independently.
Demonstrated analytical and quantitative skills; ability to interpret disparate data sets and develop plans and strategies based on quantitative analysis.
Strong negotiation and facilitation skills
Ability to learn, sell and prioritize multiple products and customer challenges.
Outstanding oral, written, and group communication skills.
Excellent leadership skills: positive energy, relentless approach to achieving results, excellent people skills and ability to form partnerships with all stakeholders.Demonstrated ability to influence others with and without authority.
Understanding of the healthcare laws and policies affecting pharmaceutical sales and reimbursement.
