Position Overview


This role has an impact on US Alliance Advocacy Department deliverables. Responsible for managing aligned alliance advocacy strategies across the product development lifecycle from pre-clinical to post-launch. Focuses on internal and external stakeholder coordination that supports appropriate healthcare provider and patient access and choice to Allergan medicines.



  • Operationalize alliance advocacy goals and objectives for assigned therapeutic areas

  • Act as the primary interface at Allergan for professional societies and patient advocacy groups

  • Serve as an internal resource to identify and opportunities that maximize disease awareness, choice, and access to the right treatment for the right patient at the right time.

  • Coordinate cross-functionally with numerous Allergan teams, for example: Development, HEOR, Commercial, and Corporate Affairs.

  • Work cross-functionally as a partner and collaborator with other AGN teams to ensure coordinated engagement with professional societies, patient advocacy groups, and policy networks--including but not limited to: Development, HEOR, Commercial marketing and operations, and Corporate Affairs/PR

  • Support department lead in managing budget targets

  • Support department lead in medical/legal/regulatory (MLR) review process of all advocacy communications materials

  • Support management of employee engagement plans


  • Foster and build strategic relationships with national and regional advocacy organizations aligned within assigned therapeutic areas

  • Seek to understand the needs and challenges of targeted advocacy stakeholders to help expand a patient-focused culture

  • Represent the company at external advocacy group meetings, make presentations, and provide internal briefings to shareinformation, advocacy issues, and communityfeedback that supports achievement of corporate goals

  • Assess gaps to support creation and delivery of innovative patient-focused communication, education, and disease awareness in close cooperation with Allergan team members

  • Manage/evaluate/measure alliance partner programs and advocacy initiatives to ensure maximum impact and that desired goals and objectives have been met in a timely manner

  • Identify best practices that can leverage existing resources and bring advocacy organizations together to move patient-focused initiatives forward in a Bold way

  • Keep abreast of new developments and ideas in the field of alliance advocacy and work with members of the internal teams to incorporate ideas into the development and execution of programs


  • 3-5 years in life sciences/biotech, professional association, patient advocacy group, or combination

  • Experience inpatient advocacy, public health affairs, managed markets, or related field preferred

  • Experience in sales, management, and/or marketing preferred

  • A proven ability to successfully develop and maintain strong working relationships between cross-functional internal colleagues

  • Experience in coordinating efforts with external alliance advocacy stakeholders/constituent groups, and patient opinion leaders

  • An understanding of the needs and behaviors of a broad variety of external stakeholders, including patients/caregivers, consumers, health care providers

  • Background in Allergan therapeutic areas of focus: CNS, Eye, GI, Women’s Health, Plastic Surgery

  • Self-starter with excellent interpersonal and influence skills

  • Experience in working in a fast-paced environment with multiple, competing priorities

  • Organized and collaborative with a proven commitment to excellence; results-oriented

  • Analysis and attention to detail results in sound communications –verbal and written

  • Reputation internally and externally as a respected contributor and subject matter expert

  • Solid understanding of regulatory, legal, and compliance policies and procedures

  • Willingness to travel domestically about 50% of the time and occasionally attend activities and events that occur during weekends and evenings


  • Bachelor’s degree required; masters preferred
